Cyberpunk 2077 - Review Thread

Game Information

Game Title: Cyberpunk 2077
Platforms:
Trailers:
Developer: CD PROJEKT RED
Publisher: CD PROJEKT RED
Review Aggregator:
OpenCritic - 87 average - 89% recommended - 62 reviews

Note from OpenCritic:

Please note: This game has significant disparities in performance, player experience, and review scores between the PC, next-gen consoles, Xbox One, and PS4 versions.
The OpenCritic team and several critics suspect that the developer, CD PROJEKT RED, intentionally sought to hide the true state of the game on Xbox One and PS4, with requirements such as only allowing pre-rendered game footage in reviews and not issuing review copies for PS4 and Xbox One versions.
This notice will be taken down in February 2021.

Recent News and Notable Information

SkillUp reports:
I have finished Cyberpunk but I will not have a review up today as I could not comply with CDPR"s embargo requirement that prohibited us from using our own recorded gameplay in the review. Instead, we were told to use b-roll, which is basically trailer footage.
Reviews should not be vehicles for rolling out more marketing material, so I'll put my review up when I'm able to show you the reality of the game with my own footage.
I'm also disappointed that no console review code was provided to any outlet...
Console games are often reviewed without their day one or even day zero patches, so Cyberpunk would not have been special in this regard. Its really lame that no reviewer can tell you how this game runs on console on the review embargo.
I absolutely love this game and I think CDPR did extraordinary work, but its clearly unfinished at this point and no review relying on trailer footage alone can properly convey that.
Fabian Mario Döhla (CDPR PR) regarding reviews being on the Day 1 patch or not (getting conflicting info regarding this so take it with a grain of salt):
They are not - a bunch of issues reviewers encountered (and reported) have been fixed already, some more are part of the update.
Toms Hardware Performance Review:
The minimum GPU listed is a GTX 780, with GTX 1060 6GB recommended for 1080p high, RTX 2060 for 1440p ultra, and an RTX 2080 Super for 4K ultra. Then there's the ray tracing additions, with the RTX 2060 listed as the minimum for 1080p and RT medium, 3070 for 1440p and RT ultra, and 3080 for 4K RT ultra. Based on what we're seeing, it looks like those recommendations are for 30-40 fps.

Cyberpunk 2077 is the ultimate power fantasy. A video game that takes the best of modern RPG, first-person shooter, stealth, and the open world and masterfully blends it into a single product. If Skyrim and GTA V marked a before and after for their genres at the beginning of the 2010s, Cyberpunk 2077 is called to do the same from this 2020.
Daily Mirror - James Ide - 5 / 5 stars
The game may not be perfect but given CD project Red's reputation for fixing and updating games Cyberpunk has a bright neon-lit future. It can proudly sit among its influences of Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner and Neuromancer (as well as games like Deus Ex, System Shock) with its augmented head held high.
It's been a long wait, but the end result is a massive sprawling RPG with an incredible story, heart-pounding action, solid mechanics and customisation, offering you unparalleled player choice in a deep, atmospheric world that I can't wait to plug myself back into.
Destructoid - Chris Carter - 7.5 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 is a victim of bloat, but you can choose to ignore a lot of it and take in the sights. That's where Night City is at its best, and I sincerely suggest that you take your time going through it, as rushing will only lead to disappointment. Even just strolling through though though, you'll probably be left wanting more.
Digital Spy - Owen Gough - 5 / 5 stars
We could wax lyrical about how good this game is for another ten years, and we still think the conversation would be relevant - so yes, we think Cyberpunk 2077 is the game of the decade. This is an event, and a big moment in gaming, because the brilliant Cyberpunk 2077 is laying down the stepping stones for greater feats in the future.

CD Projekt RED is willing to take an even bigger risk and dare something very different, combining elements that they have proven to know well and elements which they have no previous experience in.
Eurogamer - Chris Tapsell - Recommended
Exceptional characters, heartfelt storytelling and enjoyable action threaten to be engulfed by endless bugs and hasty, uneven design.
Everyeye.it - Alessandro Bruni - Italian - 9 / 10
And it is precisely for this reason that, despite all the technical problems of the production, we cannot in any way fail to assign a vote of excellence to the work of CDPR: the defects will disappear over time, but already now Cyberpunk 2077 is a title which undoubtedly deserves a place of honor in all players' library.
GAMES.CH - Benjamin Braun - German - 88 / 100
Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsequences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
GRYOnline.pl - Michał Mańka - Polish - 9 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 proves that the developers have improved their skills since fantastic The Witcher 3. It is an excellent action RPG that would benefit from a longer delay to polish the various issues. However, no amount of bugs can diminish the immense pleasure of exploring this world.
Gadgets 360 - Akhil Arora - 3 / 10
The era of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X has arrived, but Cyberpunk 2077 is currently running on those next-gen platforms via backwards compatibility. A true next-gen update isn't due until sometime in 2021. That means CD Projekt Red developed a game for three platforms, and it's running on an acceptable level on just one (PC), provided you have the hardware. That is just plain ridiculous.
Game Informer - Andrew Reiner - 9 / 10
An open world you can get lost in and continue finding new things to do
GameHaunt - Mark Louis Salazar - 4 / 5 stars
Cyberpunk 2077 is of massive ambition, and the characters in it are brilliantly written and performed.
GameMAG - Александр Копанев - Russian - 9 / 10
It's definitely feels like with Cyberpunk 2077 CD Projekt RED tried to tell a really meaningful story, while using as a backdrop truly a unique setting. And all the while the developers made sure that the game still feels approachable by all kind of people, and that it presents itself with insane graphical fidelity painting an image of an eerily realistic world of tommorow. We doubt there's too many people who don't believe in CD Projekt RED, but in case you're one of them, be warned - Cyberpunk 2077 is something that will change the way you look at the gaming industry as a whole.
GameOnAUS - Royce Wilson - Essential
This is an outstanding and highly enjoyable game, but take your time with it, do all the side missions (think of them as extensions of the main quest, in fact) and don’t rush the main storyline. You should absolutely take the earliest available opportunity to explore Night City and everything it has to offer. From the visuals to the music to the vibe, it’s a superb experience and one I am looking forward to spending a lot more time with.
GamePro - Dennis Michel - German - 83 / 100
Cyberpunk fascinates with its story and characters, but presents itself in a partially desolate state on consoles.
GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 10 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t perfect, but it is ambitious. It marries a gripping story with a huge open world absolutely dripping with atmosphere; one in which, after fifty hours of gameplay, I still feel like I’ve only scratched its surface. Even now I’m itching to jump back in and complete yet more side jobs, not only because they’re enjoyable, but also just in case they offer V more options when it comes to ending their story.
GameSpot - Kallie Plagge - 7 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 has standout side quests and strong main characters, though its buggy, superficial world and lack of purpose bring it down.
GameWatcher - Marcello Perricone - 9 / 10
A remarkably well-executed open world game whose greatest heights exceed its deepest failings.
Gameblog - Gianni Molinaro - French - 7 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 is a new masterpiece from CD Projekt RED, a huge, dense, vibrant, colorfoul and dark Sci-Fi RPG that any fan of the genre should step in. First because it will provide the sensation that the story really depends on you choices and that you have everything you need for your playstyle. Then because streets, stores, buildings, inhabitants of Night City won't get out of your head easily. You'll be happy to interact with Keanu Reeves, but the real star is this city and all it provides in terms of atmosphere, game mechanics and stories.
[OpenCritic note: Gianni Molinaro separately reviewed the next-gen (10) and current-gen (4) versions. The scores have been averaged.]

Cyberpunk 2077 is the cyberpunk game of my dreams, it provides one of the most highly detailed environments I’ve ever seen, with an incredibly expansive and immersive narrative.
Gamers Heroes - Blaine Smith - 60 / 100
Cyberpunk 2077 is a great game, but it could have been an incredible game that defined a generation. Instead, it falls victim to its own ambition and the industry's constant desire to push, push, push it out. In its current state, it's not for the faint of heart, and even hardcore Cyberpunk fans may struggle to stay interested amidst all the crashes and issues. If you have yet to pick it up, wait a few months and you could very well be treated to the experience we were all hoping for at launch.
Gamersky - 不倒翁蜀黍 - Chinese - 9.1 / 10
Although there still exist a lot of technical glitches, Cyberpunk 2077 stands out in terms of cyberpunk concept, story-telling, characters, level-design, combat, and so forth. It's a pleasure to spend hundreds of hours in the Night City, and I believe it would be one of the greatest open-world RPGs in the next decade.
GamesBeat - Jeff Grubb - 3 / 5 stars
It’s fine to make a game like that — for many, that’s the promise of Cyberpunk 2077. It just wasn’t the promise to me.
GamesRadar+ - Sam Loveridge - 5 / 5 stars
What Cyberpunk 2077 lacks in core campaign length, it makes up for with depth and soul, offering a world of intrigue and violence unlike any other.
Geek Culture - Marion Frayna - 9.1 / 10
The dark future certainly looks promising, thanks to the collective imagination of the team at CD Projekt Red, which seems to know no bounds. Cyberpunk 2077 certainly took a while to come to our hands, but be glad it’s finally here, for it is here to stay for a long time to come. And it certainly did not disappoint.

Hobby Consolas - David Martinez - Spanish - 98 / 100
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the greatest RPGs of the generation. We love Night City, its characters and great writing for every mission. It is also one of the best looking games out there (if your PC is powerful enough).
IGN - Tom Marks - 9 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 throws you into a beautiful, dense cityscape and offers a staggering amount of flexibility in how you choose to take it from there.
IGN Italy - Davide Mancini - Italian - 9.3 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 is like an addictive, huge, impressive braindance, where the feelings are real, while sometimes you see the puppet strings. It's an ambitious RPG, where narration, decisions and dialogue are far more important than combat, wrapped around a lot of fun, but usual and not always perfect, action mechanics. Engaging and marvellous to play, Night City on high-end PCs is stunning to see and super stylish. Cyberpunk 2077 is worth the wait, because the adventure of V and Johnny Silverhand is greater than the sum of its parts.
INDIANTVCZ - Filip Kraucher - Czech - 10 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 offers a great sci-fi experience in which you can get lost for hours. It is not a revolutionary title in its genre, but it brings fresh changes. Whether it's new tasks, well-written dialogues, and characters, good stylized graphics, or very pleasant controls. Decision-making constructions leave you free where you need them. Conversely, they bind you in places where it is important. Everything fits together thanks to that. And if you were afraid that Cyberpunk 2077 would be a debacle. Throw this worry behind your head. Enjoy Night City to the fullest!

Cyberpunk 2077 offers an experience that players who love the genre should definitely try despite the bugs and big problems it contains.
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 8 / 10
A stunning achievement in open world gameplay but one whose tonal inconsistencies and weak narrative undermines what could have been an all-time classic.
PC Gamer - James Davenport - 78 / 100
Some nice characters and stories nested in an astounding open world, undercut by jarring bugs at every turn.
PCGamesN - Richard Scott-Jones - 9 / 10
Groundbreaking, but not quite as much as you're hoping it is. Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't surpass its brilliant influences, but in Night City, Johnny Silverhand, and its chilling vision of hyper-capitalism, it claims territory of its own.
PCMag - 3.5 / 5 stars
I fell in love with Night City, warts and all. If its many bugs can get ironed out, Cyberpunk 2077 is a potential Game of the Year candidate. Here’s hoping that CD Projekt Red can quickly push out fixes.
PPE.pl - Wojciech Gruszczyk - Polish - 9.5 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 is huge, steeped in sex, satisfying shooting, and the expansion of individual elements delights. It's one of those productions you want to get ing into to get to know its charms and enjoy every moment in Night City.

Press Start - Brodie Gibbons - 9 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 is staggering, overwhelming, and even surprising at times in its spectacle. Although my first dozen hours with the game has been marred by easy-to-fix problems, Nighty City, along with all it offers and all that call it home, makes for an intoxicating escape. Here's hoping the next one hundred hours are as utterly compelling.

We're still playing Cyberpunk 2077 in order to bring you a finished review, but it's impossible to recommend picking this game up at launch on PS4 or PS4 Pro. On PS5 via backwards compatibility, there's still fun to be had - a glimpse of the game's excellent potential - but even then, it's crippled by bugs and crashing issues. There's something truly special at the core of Cyberpunk 2077, but in its current state, it's simply not good enough. So far, a colossal disappointment.
RPG Site - 9 / 10
When Cyberpunk's grim setting and mix of gameplay systems land, it is a powerfully impressive experience - sprawling, dense, clever, witty, and most importantly damn good fun. Other times, it has all the charm of a moody, edgy teenager.
SECTOR.sk - Peter Dragula - Slovak - 10 / 10
Absolutely stunning action game with a lot of content, deep RPG progres and dialogue. Another master-piece from CD Projekt Red!
Saudi Gamer - عصام الشهوان - Arabic - 8 / 10
An ambitious, maybe over ambitious, thrilling ride that falters when it comes to execution. The developer's strength shines through the world building and production, resulting in a unique mix that is let down by a myriad list of technical and AI problems.
Screen Rant - 4 / 5 stars
Ultimately, it feels like Cyberpunk 2077 is a fitting bookend for the previous generation of games and a strong starting point for current-gen. Now it's time to start innovating again.

Cyberpunk 2077 traces a new path for the open-world RPGs, telling a thought-provoking story about the dangerous drifts of humankind.
Stevivor - Jay Ball - 9.5 / 10
The most important thing that everyone needs to know about Cyberpunk 2077 is that while it’s imperfect, it is without a doubt a superb game.

CD Projekt Red has set a new standard for what can be achieved in this sandbox. Cyberpunk 2077 is taking open-world gaming to the next generation.
The Games Machine - Danilo Dellafrana - Italian - 9.5 / 10
Cyberpunk 2077 is a wild journey within an incredibly fascinating setting; some technical uncertainties destined to disappear and a partial repetitiveness limit its glory, but overall it is an adventure worthy of William Gibson himself. Cyberpunk 2077 allowed me to finally feel immersed in that pen & paper RPG I discovered in 1988, pouring rain clouding my view in a kaleidoscope of neon signs, just as I had imagined while leafing through those pages. Some may not consider it a perfect game, but I do.
TheGamer - Kirk McKeand - 5 / 5 stars
I’m V and the game is Silverhand - I can’t get Cyberpunk 2077 out of my head. I’ve had it a week and played 70 hours, which is probably about as healthy as scooping out my face and replacing it with electronics, but it didn’t feel like work. Like a digital personality loaded onto a biochip, it felt like stepping into another life for a while. It’s a life I can’t wait to relive.
TrueAchievements - Heidi Nicholas - 4.5 / 5 stars
It might not reinvent the genre in every aspect, but for a fantastic story, an insanely detailed word, and brilliant dialogue, you’ve got to try it.
TrustedReviews - Jade King - 4 / 5 stars
CD Projekt Red has created a triumphant RPG experience with Cyberpunk 2077, yet it often falters under the weight of its own ambition thanks to inconsistent writing and narrative
Twisted Voxel - Ali Haider - 7 / 10
Too ambitious for its own good, Cyberpunk 2077 attempts to do too much and falters in its execution as a result. Despite its issues, it’s better than the sum of its parts and might be worth checking out for fans of action RPGs.
VG247 - James Billcliffe - 5 / 5 stars
In the midst of such intense anticipation and scrutiny, it’s easy to get carried away with what Cyberpunk 2077 could have been. The final experience might be more familiar than many predicted, with plenty of elements that aren’t perfect, but it’s dripping with detail and engaging stories. With so much to see and do, Cyberpunk 2077 is the kind of RPG where you blink and hours go by, which is just what we need to finish off 2020.
Windows Central - Jez Corden - 5 / 5 stars
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world masterpiece that features some of the most immersive and liberating storytelling this industry has to offer. With full freedom to choose V's personality, looks, and gameplay style, Cyberpunk 2077 gives the player an unrelenting amount of control in a world that delivers dozens upon dozens of hours of high-quality content. Cyberpunk 2077 is a mammoth achievement and solidifies CD Projekt RED's place at the top of the pile.
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 6.5 / 10
It may not sound like it, but I enjoyed many aspects of Cyberpunk 2077. It doesn't hit the highs of The Witcher 3, but it still has a lot going for it. However, it was released in such an unfinished state that it's hard to give it a positive review. It's an 8.0 game hiding in a 4.0 game wrapper. I might change my tune in a few months, when patches have rolled out, but even when playing the best version available on the PlayStation systems, there's no getting around it: Cyberpunk 2077 might have been mocked for its delays, but it needed more of them. You'll still have fun if you pick it up now, but unless you're dying for it, it's best to wait until it's been patched and improved.

Goldeneye 007| Project Bean (XB360)

I have a feeling that people will pop up soon asking for the recently leaked 007 XBLA game. The version I used is from here. You can find the game in an extracted format here. The user who uploaded the extracted format also posted a bunch of media about the game back in 2019. You can view that here
To play this most people will need to use the Xenia emulator. You can download the current master version from here and you can get the beta canary version from here. The emulator seems to crash or run into game breaking issues when trying to run on systems that use an AMD 5X00/6X00 XT. u/Jaded_Laugh8332 mentioned using the May 2020 build for users with AMD cards that have issues. You can find that build here
You can follow a set up video here.
Other users have mentioned the game seems to run fine on modded original hardware, but I don't have a modded 360 to test it myself. I've read there was originally a flag set to only allow it to run on dev hardware, but it was patched out before being released.
Settings To change the settings you have to open the xenia.config.toml file in NotePad, change some values in the file, and then save it. The file is located in your user documents folder.
u/bradrsp12 was kind enough to share a save having 007 difficulty completed for those who want to have everything unlocked here. Once downloaded it should be placed in
\Documents\Xenia\content\584108A9\00000001\beansave.dat
Controller to keyboard u/JohanSplurge has posted how to set keyboard controls up in a post below. You can jump to it here. Mice are not supported
What is this gibberish file? It seems one of the links it down. The link with the file that has no extension and looks like a mess should run fine when going through File>Open and opening it in Xenia.
If you want to start getting into playing/collecting Xbox 360 titles I highly suggest setting up launchbox (site here). Once set up LaunchBox makes things look a lot more nice, you can just double click artwork to launch a game, and you can add RetroArch/other emulators to keep your collection all together.
Background Allegedly this was uploaded to PartnerNet sort of like Live for dev consoles. PartnerNet wasn't very secure. People were able to get a hold of dev kits and access it. Beans was only up for about an hour or so. In that time someone with a second hand dev kit managed to grab it. You can watch MVG go over it here. He has also done a video on PartnerNet in general here
How do i access PartnetNet/Find other Beta/Protos? You can no longer access PartnetNet. To find more of what is available for Xbox 360 you will need to download the Microsoft Xbox 360 Digital DAT file from the No Intro Dat O Matic. You can select to download a complete, proto/beta only, or retail only list. Then load it in a manager program like Romulus
Enjoy
Thank you to the kind strangers who gave me awards. These are my first awards. I am happy to help others find and enjoy games.

Bioware Blog post and main announcement:
LINK
Important excerpts:
For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games. Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form.
...
Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. It will be available in Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with forward compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
When will the Legendary Edition be released?
As of February, the release date has been announced as May 14, 2021.
What platforms will the Legendary Edition be available on?
Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PCs, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.
Is there a trailer for the Legendary Edition?
Yes, there is a teaser trailer HERE and a 4K reveal trailer HERE.
What aspects will be remastered/what will be changed or added?
This is what we know so far:
  • All three games and textures will be remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra HD.
  • Bug fixes
  • ME3's default appearance FemShep will now be available in ME1 and ME2 and has been slightly improved.
  • Improved and updated ME1 combat
  • More unified controls across all three games including with hacking/minigames
  • Universal character creator across all three games with new skin tones and hairstyles
  • ME3 will now include extended cut and galactic readiness will not require multiplayer.
  • Genesis and all DLC (except ME1's Pinnacle Station) now included. Multiplayer will also not be included.
  • Some animations and camera angles will be fixed. (MOD NOTE: This is like the Andromeda incest debacle all over again. Any and all posts about the changes to Miranda's cut scenes will be removed. There have been dozens of these and all of them violate at least Rule 3 and Rule 8. Multiple rule violations will result in a ban. They're not censoring Miranda's bum. They're literally just changing a few camera angles to be less awkward. Remember that scene with Femshep's dress?)

The Next Mass Effect

Has the next Mass Effect game been announced?
Yes, in the above N7 day blog post from Bioware, they announced that they are working on the next ME and released this teaser image:
Mud Skipper
Fans have speculated that the figures seen are a human, Angara, Drell, and Salarian, but none of these details have been officially confirmed. The image above has been titled "Mud Skipper."
Further, The Bioware Blog also made a post after the 2020 Game Awards trailer release HERE.
When will it be released and which platforms will it be on?
At this time we do not know what platforms the game will be on as we have no idea when it will be released. The Next Mass Effect is still a long way away and may even be released with a whole new generation of consoles.
Is there any other concept art?
Yes, some concept art for the next Mass Effect was released in the new art book Bioware: Stories and Secrets from 25 Years of Game Development. See photos HERE and upscaled images from Casey Hudson himself HERE.
Is there a trailer?
Yes; watch it HERE.
During the Game Awards on December 10, 2020, a new teaser trailer was released featuring Liara at the end and some unknown figures standing with the "Mud Skipper" ship. Other familiar imagery include someone (presumably Liara) climbing a Reaper carcass, a destroyed Mass Relay, and a piece of an N7 Breather Helmet in Liara's hands.
Mike Gamble stated in a TWEET that he had been waiting "1,360" days for this, which is the exact number of days since Andromeda's release on March 21, 2017 up to the 2020 Game Awards. He also said "This trailer has much to unpack. Look. And listen closely :)" seemingly referring to the voices talking at the beginning of the trailer. Some of the voices and sounds include "first contact protocol," "Ark 6 is away," a reaper blast, and "we've lost contact." Ark 6 is the Quarian Ark from Andromeda.
Is The Next Mass Effect a sequel to the original trilogy or Andromeda?
We don't know yet. Any confirmed details will be in this post. I will use this question to post some Tweets from people involved with the project that seem to imply that it is both.
https://twitter.com/GambleMike/status/1337235463266942976:
Replying to @Joanna_Berry: Opening shot also has very pointed imagery of two galaxies... my mind is racing... are we going to get.. a single sequel to both games?!
Michael Gamble @GambleMike: intentional.

Replying to @reich_the: I can't say I'm not excited, but Bioware just abandoned Andromeda. This is not good, some of us connected with Ryder and crew. Bioware just slapped us, and gave us candy.

Replying to @JustACyberLad: I heard "Godspeed" and all can I think of is that moment of taking off in the Tempest for the first time.
Michael Gamble @GambleMike: intentional.
Is there a title for the next game?
Not yet. At this time it is just being called The Next Mass Effect.
Who is composing the sound track and will any of the OT or Andromeda music be back?
We don't know yet, but Benjamin Wallfisch composed the music for the Game Awards teaser trailer.
Who is working on this game?
The N7 Day blog post stated that a "veteran team" is working on the game. Although Casey Hudson recently left Bioware, Mike Gamble Tweeted on 12/11/20 that the following veterans are working on the game. He also stated that "As time goes on, you'll get to know more of us."
  • Derek Watts, original art director for Mass Effect
  • Brenon Holmes, designer for three ME games (ME2, ME3, and MEA)
  • Parrish Ley, cinematic director for the Original Trilogy
  • Dusty Everman, worked on bringing the original Normandy to life

The one major thing that I respect Microsoft for, over Nintendo or Sony, is their respect to their legacy consoles and focus on backwards compatibility with the Series X & S.

I've always been under the impression, that just because a game has age on it, does not eliminate its value or fun factor. The original Doom is as fun as it was when it was released. Halo: Combat Evolved turns 20 this year, and is still a great game. Having 4 generations of Xbox on these systems is huge for me. If Nintendo or Sony had focused on this, it would have been killer. Imagine being able to play Playstation 1 to 5 on the PS5? There would be no contest. Nintendo is a little harder, since they change up their format so much, that backwards compatibility would be more focused on digital but they have incredible legacy content they are just wasting right now. They had the right idea with Virtual Console.
But man, Xbox really nailed the nostalgia factor for me. It's not just playing the game I loved again. It's seeing them and experiencing them in all new ways. HDR enabled, 4K upscaled visuals and with faster loading? In some ways its like a remaster without being called one. A favorite game with a new coat of paint! Great move and I hope they add more games (Where's the OG Xbox stuff? Way too many missing!) and a decent amount of more 360 as well. The preservation of their past allows for a great foundation building into the future. It's why I trust Microsoft this generation to get it done. Let's see what you can do Phil!

TL;DR--Microsoft's respect for their legacy content has me excited for the future!

Reviews

Reviews in bold were posted after launch
Website/Author Aggregates' Score ~ Critic's Score Quote Platform
Polygon - Carolyn Petit Unscored ~ Unscored Cyberpunk 2077 is dad rock, not new wave PC
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Graham Smith Unscored ~ Unscored Cyberpunk 2077 is huge, sprawling, complex, and deeply flawed. It’s at its best as a fairly straightforward singleplayer action game, with likable characters and thrilling capers in a fascinatingly detailed open world that looks better than any game before it. It’s at its worst if you want it to be an RPG, an approach-as-you-please Deus Ex successor, or a polished piece of software. I enjoyed my time with it a lot, and I even want more of it, though I’m going to spend years complaining about its flaws. I’ll enjoy the complaining, too. PC
Skill Up - Ralph Panebianco Unscored ~ Unscored This game and Night City are far too special an experience to be interrupted and undermined by the issues that currently undermine this game. Part of me wishes I was among the people who picked up the game for the first time a year from now, with all its parts finished and shiny like a brand new Quadro type 66 Avenger. Regardless of when you pick it up, you're in for a once in a lifetime experience, and you can't say that about many games. PC
Push Square - Robert Ramsey Unscored ~ Review-In-Progress On PS5 via backwards compatibility, there's still fun to be had - a glimpse of the game's excellent potential - but even then, it's crippled by bugs and crashing issues. There's something truly special at the core of Cyberpunk 2077, but in its current state, it's simply not good enough. So far, a colossal disappointment. PS4
TheSixthAxis - Alexis Ong Unscored ~ Review-In-Progress Pondsmith has talked at length about how 2020 and 2077 aren’t meant to be prophecies, but cautionary tales, but CDPR isn’t quite the right studio to pull off a cautionary tale of this scope. I’m not sure whether dumping more hours in will yield a better takeaway, but here’s hoping for more. PS4 Pro
Press Start - Brodie Gibbons Unscored ~ Review-In-Progress Cyberpunk 2077 is staggering, overwhelming, and even surprising at times in its spectacle. Although my first dozen hours with the game has been marred by easy-to-fix problems, Nighty City, along with all it offers and all that call it home, makes for an intoxicating escape. Here's hoping the next one hundred hours are as utterly compelling. PC
Eurogamer - Chris Tapsell Unscored ~ Recommended Exceptional characters, heartfelt storytelling and enjoyable action threaten to be engulfed by endless bugs and hasty, uneven design. PC
GameOnAUS - Royce Wilson Unscored ~ Essential This is an outstanding and highly enjoyable game, but take your time with it, do all the side missions (think of them as extensions of the main quest, in fact) and don’t rush the main storyline. You should absolutely take the earliest available opportunity to explore Night City and everything it has to offer. From the visuals to the music to the vibe, it’s a superb experience and one I am looking forward to spending a lot more time with. PC
Daily Mirror - James Ide 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars It's been a long wait, but the end result is a massive sprawling RPG with an incredible story, heart-pounding action, solid mechanics and customisation, offering you unparalleled player choice in a deep, atmospheric world that I can't wait to plug myself back into. PC
Digital Spy - Owen Gough 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars We could wax lyrical about how good this game is for another ten years, and we still think the conversation would be relevant - so yes, we think Cyberpunk 2077 is the game of the decade. This is an event, and a big moment in gaming, because the brilliant Cyberpunk 2077 is laying down the stepping stones for greater feats in the future. PC
GameSpew - Richard Seagrave 100 ~ 10 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t perfect, but it is ambitious. PC
Gamerheadquarters - Jason Stettner 100 ~ 10 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 is the cyberpunk game of my dreams, it provides one of the most highly detailed environments I’ve ever seen, with an incredibly expansive and immersive narrative. Stadia
GamesRadar+ - Sam Loveridge 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars What Cyberpunk 2077 lacks in core campaign length, it makes up for with depth and soul, offering a world of intrigue and violence unlike any other. PC
God is a Geek - Mick Fraser 100 ~ 10 / 10 Despite a few flaws, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most consistently astounding pieces of media I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. PC
PowerUp! - Leo Stevenson 100 ~ 10 / 10 Frankly, Cyberpunk 2077 is the best video game I've ever played PC
The Digital Fix - Andrew Shaw 100 ~ 10 / 10 CD Projekt Red has set a new standard for what can be achieved in this sandbox. Cyberpunk 2077 is taking open-world gaming to the next generation. PC
TheGamer - Kirk McKeand 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars I’m V and the game is Silverhand - I can’t get Cyberpunk 2077 out of my head. PC
VG247 - James Billcliffe 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars With so much to see and do, Cyberpunk 2077 is the kind of RPG where you blink and hours go by, which is just what we need to finish off 2020. PC
Windows Central - Jez Corden 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world masterpiece that features some of the most immersive and liberating storytelling this industry has to offer. With full freedom to choose V's personality, looks, and gameplay style, Cyberpunk 2077 gives the player an unrelenting amount of control in a world that delivers dozens upon dozens of hours of high-quality content. PC
Stevivor - Jay Ball 95 ~ 9.5 / 10 The most important thing that everyone needs to know about Cyberpunk 2077 is that while it’s imperfect, it is without a doubt a superb game. PC
Geek Culture - Marion Frayna 91 ~ 9.1 / 10 The dark future certainly looks promising, thanks to the collective imagination of the team at CD Projekt Red, which seems to know no bounds. Cyberpunk 2077 certainly took a while to come to our hands, but be glad it’s finally here, for it is here to stay for a long time to come. And it certainly did not disappoint. PC
Game Informer - Andrew Reiner 90 ~ 9 / 10 An open world you can get lost in and continue finding new things to do PC
GameWatcher - Marcello Perricone 90 ~ 9 / 10 A remarkably well-executed open world game whose greatest heights exceed its deepest failings. PC
GamingBolt - Rohan Philip 90 ~ 9 / 10 Minor flaws aside, Cyberpunk 2077 on PC is an exciting and enthralling open world experience. It doesn't set a new industry standard, but it does most of the things it aims to do with great success. PC
Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 Cyberpunk 2077 is excellent and one of the must-play titles of 2020, but unfortunately this statement needs to be clarified depending on the platform. PC
IGN - Tom Marks 90 ~ 9 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 throws you into a beautiful, dense cityscape and offers a staggering amount of flexibility in how you choose to take it from there. PC
PC Invasion - Jason Rodriguez 90 ~ 9 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 has some glaring flaws and missed opportunities. Its open-world sandbox suffers from poor NPC and police AI, and it lacks customization and transmogrification features to help your character stand out. Still, the pros outweigh the cons owing to a brilliant narrative, memorable missions, strong supporting cast of characters, well-integrated combat and hacking mechanics, and jaw-dropping visuals. PC
PCGamesN - Richard Scott-Jones 90 ~ 9 / 10 Groundbreaking, but not quite as much as you're hoping it is. Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't surpass its brilliant influences, but in Night City, Johnny Silverhand, and its chilling vision of hyper-capitalism, it claims territory of its own. PC
RPG Site - Alex Donaldson 90 ~ 9 / 10 When Cyberpunk's grim setting and mix of gameplay systems land, it is a powerfully impressive experience - sprawling, dense, clever, witty, and most importantly damn good fun. Other times, it has all the charm of a moody, edgy teenager. PC
TrueAchievements - Heidi Nicholas 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars It might not reinvent the genre in every aspect, but for a fantastic story, an insanely detailed word, and brilliant dialogue, you’ve got to try it. PC
Xbox Achievements - Dan Webb 85 ~ 85 / 100 Cyberpunk 2077 is an incredible but hugely flawed video game. At its core lies a deceptively deep-RPG, set in one of the most wonderous cities ever created in video games and it’s genuinely an experience I’ll never forget. It’s just a shame it’s such a bloody bugfest, though. XBSX
Daily Star - Tom Hutchison 80 ~ 4 / 5 stars If you’re willing to lose yourself in Cyberpunk for the long term you’ll definitely get your money’s worth out of a strong role-player that’s flowing with action missions.
GameCrate - Angelo D'Argenio 80 ~ 8 / 10 I want to recognize how ambitious and fun this game is while simultaneously warning people about how incomplete and sloppy it is. Whether or not this is a worthwhile purchase will be entirely up to whether or not you want to brave the bugs, glitches, and general half-baked feel in order to get to the core roleplaying game underneath. PC
GameHaunt - Mark Louis Salazar 80 ~ 4 / 5 stars Cyberpunk 2077 is of massive ambition, and the characters in it are brilliantly written and performed. PC
Jump Dash Roll - Derek Johnson 80 ~ 8 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 has some seriously major technical problems, but it's worth putting up with them to experience a fantastically down-to-earth story that's accompanied by solid shooting and great music. PC
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral 80 ~ 8 / 10 A stunning achievement in open world gameplay but one whose tonal inconsistencies and weak narrative undermines what could have been an all-time classic. PC
Screen Rant - Cody Gravelle 80 ~ 4 / 5 stars Ultimately, it feels like Cyberpunk 2077 is a fitting bookend for the previous generation of games and a strong starting point for current-gen. Now it's time to start innovating again. PC
TrustedReviews - Jade King 80 ~ 4 / 5 stars CD Projekt Red has created a triumphant RPG experience with Cyberpunk 2077, yet it often falters under the weight of its own ambition thanks to inconsistent writing and narrative PC
VideoGamer - Josh Wise 80 ~ 8 / 10 The scenes that have lodged most deeply in my memory are not those devoted to the chases, the shootouts, or the narrow squeaks, but those possessed of a quiet empathy. PS5
PC Gamer - James Davenport 78 ~ 78 / 100 Some nice characters and stories nested in an astounding open world, undercut by jarring bugs at every turn. PC
Critical Hit - Brad Lang 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 tells a compelling story with an excellent assortment of characters but fails to deliver on the promises of a living, breathing open-world. All of these faults are amplified by a messy user interface, unengaging combat, and shoddy performance across multiple platforms. PC
Destructoid - Chris Carter 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 is a victim of bloat, but you can choose to ignore a lot of it and take in the sights. That's where Night City is at its best, and I sincerely suggest that you take your time going through it, as rushing will only lead to disappointment. Even just strolling through though though, you'll probably be left wanting more. PC
Easy Allies - Ben Moore 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 The glitz and glamour of Night City unfortunately doesn't cover up its rampant bug infestation. Written PC
Attack of the Fanboy - William Schwartz 70 ~ 3.5 / 5 stars Cyberpunk 2077 will ultimately be optimized for every platform and the major bugs will likely be squashed, but it's real problems will remain. A lack of gameplay and systems that matter leave the game feeling uninspired, even if some of the conversations and characters in this world are the best we've seen in quite some time. PC
But Why Tho? - Quinn Hiers 70 ~ 7 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 offers players an interesting world to explore, great storytelling, and loveable and deep characters. But the main story is light on cyberpunk themes, and the bugs and bad graphics really hinder the playability. Once the technical bugs are hammered out, Cyberpunk 2077 will be a game I would recommend. PS4
GameSpot - Kallie Plagge 70 ~ 7 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077 has standout side quests and strong main characters, though its buggy, superficial world and lack of purpose bring it down. PC
Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Leo 70 ~ 70 / 100 Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely a massive CRPG undertaking. If it weren’t for the glitches and bugs in the way, I’d say CD Projekt has a helluva masterpiece in its hands. PX, XBSX
PCMag - Gabriel Zamora 70 ~ 3.5 / 5 stars I fell in love with Night City, warts and all. If its many bugs can get ironed out, Cyberpunk 2077 is a potential Game of the Year candidate. Here’s hoping that CD Projekt Red can quickly push out fixes. PC
Shacknews - Josh Hawkins 70 ~ 7 / 10 I’d love nothing more than to sit here and tell you that it’s a perfect game and that you won’t have any issues playing it. Sadly, that isn’t the case. In its current state, Cyberpunk 2077 has a strong story and world, but those strengths are weighed down by bad design decisions and bugs aplenty. PC
Twisted Voxel - Ali Haider 70 ~ 7 / 10 Too ambitious for its own good, Cyberpunk 2077 attempts to do too much and falters in its execution as a result. Despite its issues, it’s better than the sum of its parts and might be worth checking out for fans of action RPGs. PS5
Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus 65 ~ 6.5 / 10 It may not sound like it, but I enjoyed many aspects of Cyberpunk 2077. It doesn't hit the highs of The Witcher 3, but it still has a lot going for it. However, it was released in such an unfinished state that it's hard to give it a positive review. It's an 8.0 game hiding in a 4.0 game wrapper. PS4
Cultured Vultures - Ryan Stevens 60 ~ 6 / 10 A lack of focus, vague combat, and some truly befuddling performance issues hamper the still competent, and often enjoyable, detective sim that the best parts of Cyberpunk 2077 want to be. PS4
Gamers Heroes - Blaine Smith 60 ~ 60 / 100 Cyberpunk 2077 is a great game, but it could have been an incredible game that defined a generation. Instead, it falls victim to its own ambition and the industry's constant desire to push, push, push it out. PS5
GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat 60 ~ 6 / 10 Contrary to expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 is not going to set the world on fire. It's not the gaming revolution that was promised to us, but it's still a fun RPG- with plenty of room for improvement. PS5
Guardian - Keith Stuart 60 ~ 3 / 5 stars Blade Runner meets Grand Theft Auto in this sprawling hellscape of a role-playing game, which is extraordinarily immersive but let down by misogyny and xenophobia PC
Pure Xbox - PJ O'Reilly 50 ~ 5 / 10 Cyberpunk 2077, in its current form on consoles, is a hard game to recommend getting involved with. There's a strong narrative here, brilliantly written characters, some excellent side missions, fun combat and an astonishing setting but, as things stand right now, it's an experience that's in need of some serious TLC. The Series X version may well perform better than the frankly shocking last-gen console efforts but this is a game that we had constant problems with and one that doesn't feel or play like a fully finished product. XB1
IGN - Destin Legarie 40 ~ 4 / 10 Please don't play Cyberpunk 2077 on a base Xbox One or PS4. It is a shockingly bad way to experience what is a fantastic RPG on better hardware. PS4, XB1
Gadgets 360 - Akhil Arora 30 ~ 3 / 10 CD Projekt Red delivers a horror-show on the most popular console PS4
