Now that 2020 is winding down and all of the BG’s are starting to post their 2020 favorites, what are your favorite makeup buys of the year? Did a BG influence you to purchase?

My top beauty products of the year are:
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter - Courtesy of Julia Adams. I finally caved after the rave reviews, and this product is absolutely beautiful. The most perfect glow that melts into the skin and is very versatile.
Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Contour Powder - Every BG from back in the day. I remember Jessica Braun raving about this! I love this because it’s not ashy but doesn’t make me look orange! I use this as a bronzer.
Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize Oyster Pearl - Random video of Karima McKimmie’s I happened to watch. I love the color of this, and it’s the perfect shade for any occasion. The lasting power is great on me as well!
Those are my top 3 purchases from BG’s, but some of my other faves include cream eyeshadow sticks in general for ease of use, Fenty Beauty Slip Shine lipstick in Cookies & Cocoa, and the Buxom Wanderlust blush in Seychelles.
What are your favorites this year? To be honest, I look forward to learning your favorites because I buy more from Reddit reviews than YouTube!

Starship Development Thread #8

Overview

Starship development is currently concentrated at SpaceX's Starship Assembly Site in Boca Chica, Texas, where preparations for the first Starship Version 1 build (SN1) are underway. Elon hopes this article will fly in the spring of 2020. The Texas site has been undergoing a pivot toward the new flight design which will, in part, utilize a semi clean room welding environment and improved bulkhead manufacturing techniques. Starship construction in Florida is on hold and many materials, components and equipment there have been moved to Texas.
Currently under construction at Kennedy Space Center's LC-39A are a dedicated Starship launch platform and landing pad. Starhopper's Texas launch site was modified to handle Starship Mk.1 and a larger Superheavy capable mount is expected to be built on the previously undeveloped east side of the property. At SpaceX's McGregor Texas site where Raptor is tested there are three operational test stands, and a fourth is reportedly planned for SpaceX's Cape Canaveral landing complex. Elon mentioned that Raptor SN20 was being built near the end of January.

Early experience with TCD

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share a long update. I've been upping my intake of SFA, particularly cocoa butter, tallow, and regular butter, for the past 1.5 weeks. I only started incorporating pure stearic acid a couple days ago.
I've been shocked. I've dropped 1.5lbs of weight (which is probably water weight, who knows). This isn't much... but it's sort of a big deal because 1) I'm a small women with a healthy BMI, and 2) I've been overfeeding this past week with fats, alcohol, high-ish protein, and low-ish carb. The only macronutrients I worry about are protein (above 100g/day) and fat (40-45% of calories/day, coming primarily from SFA.) I've probably been consuming 2200 calories/day, which is a lot, because I'm only 5'0" and 120 lbs. I'm an active weightlifter, but this intake should far exceed my TDEE. I'd like to drop about 10lbs of fat, but it recently hasn't been budging.
I've been eating a lot of homemade swedish meatballs with SA-enhanced mashed potatoes and beef gravy. I fry the meatballs in a blend of tallow and SA flakes. I then take some butter and melt it down with SA, and whip these into my potatoes. I make gravy from the beef drippings and some beef stock. I enjoy all this with quite a lot of red wine. (Not because I think it helps -- in my case, it probably doesn't, since I gain weight on alcohol. I just really enjoy it.) I also snack on dark chocolate while my meal is cooking, if I want it.
I used to do keto, but adding back in potatoes has been amazing for satiety! I could definitely fast for 2 days. (Just haven't wanted to for social reasons.)
The weirdest consequence of this small experiment, aside from minimal weight loss and better satiety, is my energy levels. Last night, after a high SA meal, I was burning up -- literally sweating all night. (Sorry if this is TMI.) I took my temperature before I went to bed, and it was a full degree higher than normal. This morning, I measured my ketones, and I was already in moderate ketosis -- also weird, because I ate potatoes and drank two heavy beers last night. Maybe my body is just expelling the dietary fat...?
So, all in all, I'm sticking with this for awhile and excited to see what it may bring. I worry a little about my blood work, since I'm still anxious that lots of fat + carbs might hurt me in some way. (Ted Naiman influence, though I respect the guy highly.) I'm also going to try to get a glucose meter to measure my blood sugar the morning after. I have a family history of diabetes, but that said, I've always had normal readings, so I don't imagine I'll see a BG number above 90-95 the morning after. Ideally it would be lower, but maybe it will decline if I drop some body fat. Finally, I've taken measurements, so we'll see what happens with my belly and subcutaneous fat as the weeks progress.
Anyway, good stuff! Thanks for reading, and I'll try to update.

Sixteen92 Fall 2020 Memento Mori collection (sorta) reviews that probably won't help anyone

Hiiiii, comin' at ya with some more random thoughts. Thought I'd separate my posts on the new Sixteen92 stuffs into the 2 collections since I tend to write unnecessarily long paragraphs about scents. So, about my preferences - I like woodsy/earthy/smoky scents and if they have gasoline and motor oil in them then I'm in love. I dislike most gourmands and florals. I do like atmospherics quite a lot, sometimes more as art than as something I actually put on and enjoy. The sweet spot is finding ones that are both, right? That said, let's go visit some spoopy sites (I linked a favorite tourist-posted-on-Google pic in each name).
Highgate Cemetery - Earl Grey tea, lavender sprigs, juniper berry, ivy, gravel, crumbling cobblestones, delicate fallen leaves & soft mittens.
Look, I'm not going to mince words - I dislike this. It's so much Earl Grey, lavender, and juniper and so little anything else. As it fades down I can sniff maybe a hint of stone and/or leaves but it's way too subtle to tell. Honestly this doesn't feel cemetery-related at all. More like tea shop in winter maybe?
Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 - white mandevilla, sooty dragon's blood, wild datura, wrought iron gates, muddy clay, living moss, chicory root, bone dust, chalk.
This is one of those muddy, earthy florals that I think S92 is very good at. I say this because I don't like floral scents generally but when they have enough earthy elements then they sometimes become a thing I might enjoy. I have The Primrose Path and am trying it on the opposite wrist because I thought they might be similar but while they may be cousins I think Lafayette has more atmospheric notes and Primrose is more floral and brighter. Like with Highgate, I feel like this one is a lot of the first 3 notes and very little of the rest. The florals are very soft and pleasant through, IMO, and I think I get some of the dragon's blood. As if fades down there's a coldness to it that I could see being maybe iron and moss.
Hollywood Forever Cemetery- glamorous satin and soft feather fringe, black fig, orris, tonka, bourbon on the rocks, smoked cardamom, cold marble.
The fig in this makes me angry - I think it's what is tipping this over into sweetness. Possibly in cahoots with the tonka. I'm down with the other stuff and it really does smell like bourbon on the rocks, complete with cold, clinking ice and maybe the marble note is helping that along too. I'm always intrigued by cold notes. Overall I like the *idea* of this much more than wearing it as a scent.
Panteon Viejo de Xoxocotlán - wreaths of marigold & cockscomb, dusty cocoa, canela, sugar cube, flickering votives, honey cakes.
I was kind of excited about this one at first - it smells like an atmospheric gourmand, not like Solstice Scents Black Forest but I hoped it would be a distant cousin. But it turns out to be much more of a gourmand than anything else and it's very sweet to my nose. It also fades down to just a sugary floral scent that's basically my nightmare so this one is a no from me. But I'm having fun Googling all of these cemeteries and this is another one that seems spot on for atmosphere. Spent some time on the satellite maps roaming the streets looking at all of the art, little food stands, and markets.
Cimetière du Père Lachaise - faded lipstick, moss covered brick, hazy morning fog, discarded petals, packed dirt, chestnut wood, distant chimney smoke.
I think someone else said in their review that this reminded them of The Bottling Room? Anyway, I get that same vibe. I actually didn't like TBR for the fake floral note and this instead has more of a dried rose petals and kind of a waxy, plasticy smell. There's definitely some oakmoss playing around and I'm getting something like a bitter sort of ozone-esque note along with a teeny bit of dirt, wood, and smoke. Also think this one is super well done in terms of invoking the atmosphere.

I have to admit that this collection is a pretty big disappointment for me as I won't be full-sizing any and was expecting to be blown away by most of the fall and Halloween scents since I've found so many hits from previous years. (Thanks to all of the IMAM folks who have destashed theirs :D) Folks who have tried these, what say ye? Are you going in for full sizes of any?

There have been a bunch of attempts at getting vim/nvim to switch themes automatically since macOS 10.14 came out with dark mode. It turns out none of them are ideal:
So here, I have built the Rolls Royce of background togglers. It works perfectly, because it uses a little invisible macOS application running in every Vim instance, which watches the same change event as every other Cocoa app.
Features:
Enjoy :)

Overview

Starship development is currently concentrated at SpaceX's Starship Assembly Site in Texas. Until mid November, the Starship development teams had been focusing on finishing the Mark 1 and 2 vehicles which were expected to make suborbital test flights. The Mark 1 testing campaign ended on November 20 with a catastrophic failure of the methane tank during pressurized testing. In a statement from SpaceX after the incident it was announced that the decision had already been made not to fly these vehicles, and that development will now focus on the orbital Mark 3 design. Starship development in Florida has been put on hold and it is unclear what will become of Mark 2.
Launch mounts for the Starship prototypes are in the works. Starhopper's Texas launch site was modified to handle Starship Mk.1, and at Kennedy Space Center's LC-39A, a dedicated Starship launch platform and landing pad are under construction. SpaceX has not recently indicated what sort of flight test schedule to expect for Mark 3.
Starship is powered by SpaceX's Raptor, a full flow staged combustion cycle methane/oxygen rocket engine. Sub-scale Raptor test firing began in 2016, and full-scale test firing began early 2019 at McGregor, Texas, where there are two operational test stands, and a third is under construction. Eventually, Starship will have three sea level Raptors and three vacuum Raptors. Super Heavy may initially use around 20 Raptors, and operational versions could have around 31 to 37 sea level Raptors.

We may keep this self-post occasionally updated with links and relevant news articles, but for the most part, we expect the community to supply the information. This is a great place to discuss the launch, ask mission-specific questions, and track the progress of the test Campaign. Campaign threads are not launch threads. Normal subreddit rules still apply.
